GSRM 2025 cohort

About the workshop

This workshop is designed as a quick introduction to the R programming language via ggplot2 and quarto. The R programming language is widely used in the scientific community, with special emphasis on data analysis and visualization. The ggplot2 R package is a powerful data-visualization tool that makes using R pleasant. And quarto is a modern publishing system that allows you to create beautiful documents, presentations, and websites using R.

The workshop assumes the attendees will have reviewed the contents of the following materials:

  • Posit cloud essentials (link).
  • Chapter 1 of the book “R for Data Science” (Hadley Wickham and others) (link).
  • Get started with Quarto (link).

All the workshop materials are available at the GitHub repository.

Getting R

To install R just follow the instructions available at http://cran.r-project.org

Getting RStudio

RStudio is the most popular Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for R that is developed by the company of the same name. While having RStudio is not a requirement for using netdiffuseR, it is highly recommended.

To get RStudio just visit https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download/.

Funding

The workshop was prepared as part of the Genomics Summer Research for Magnificents (GSRM) program at the University of Utah, with support from University of Utah’s DELPHI program.
